MBN reports that Monica Marie Padilla, a San Antonio bookkeeper was arrested by the FBI and later appeared in court in leg shackles to stand before a judge. Padilla is accused of stealing over $500,000 from her employer. The 48 year old woman is facing 23 counts of wire fraud and identity theft. Presumed innocents until proven guilty, Padilla was released on bail.
Editorial comment: Bookkeepers should never in a position of both reconciling and authorizing payments. Safeguards should always be in place to protect business funds.
